The access to European Market for certain products is regulated by the European Union. The requirements are written down in a series of directives. By placing the CE-marking on a product, the manufacturer declares that his product complies with all applicable European Directives. Without the CE-marking a marketing or operation of the product within the European Market is not allowed. A product may be within the scope of one or more EU Directives.

The manufacturer can usually choose under different conformity assessment procedures. Some of them require a Notified Body to be involved.

Still the involvement of a notified body has many additional advantages. The rules and requirements of the directives are many. Besides the purely technical testing, you, as a manufacturer, are responsible for the proper technical documentation and the correct labeling of your products.
